Indoor Air Quality

Did you know that most people today in the United States spend about 90% of their time indoors? And of that time, about 50% or more is spent inside one’s home? How clean do you think the air inside your home is? Would you say it’s cleaner than the air outside your home? Well guess again. The air in most homes contains higher concentrations of pollutants than outdoor air. Sometimes 2 to 5 times higher, according to the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Safety Council.   Over the last few decades, to conserve energy, homes have built increasingly airtight. This is, of course, to seal out the outside colder, or warmer, air and to create a nice indoor environment. In addition, over the years many product manufacturers, like window companies, have spent millions of dollars to make the their products airtight. Fortunately, this may cut-down in our utility costs; but unfortunately, this also traps indoor pollutants in. And with most homes using a forced air type heating and air conditioning system, these pollutants are circulated over and over within our breathing space.   Did you know that only one ounce of dust can contain nearly 42,000 living dust mites? Each one can expel up to 20 fecal pellets per day. Dust also carries additional pollen, fungus, and bacteria that can grow, spread, and even reproduce throughout your home. But most people think that because they have an off-the-shelf, 1-inch filter installed in their system, that this wouldn't be a problem in their home. Fact is that those typical 1-inch disposable filters only trap about 7% of this type of pollution. This leaves the remainder of these indoor irritants to remain in your home, causing headaches, coughing, sneezing, and many more allergic reactions such as asthma, infections, and skin irritations. What is the solution to this problem you ask? There are many! One of the simplest is upgrading that 99 cent filter to a 1-inch residential pleated filter, which costs as little as $9.00 and lasts up to three times as long. Of course there are many other solutions, which we will cover below.   Please click on the links below to view information on these subjects.
